BPT Coal Closure

Barney Point Terminal Closure of Coal Operations

On 20 May 2016, GPC's Barney Point Terminal (BPT) exported its final coal vessel and has subsequently ceased coal operations at the terminal.

This closure is in line with the commitment made by our Board of Directors and the Queensland Government to cease coal operations on commencement of continuous coal exports from the Wiggins Island Coal Export Terminal (WICET), and enables operations at Barney Point to focus on dry bulk and potential new trade opportunities.

Transition works are currently being undertaken at the facility, including the transfer of coal from BPT to RG Tanna Coal Terminal (RGTCT) and WICET.

The closure of coal operations at BPT is part of our commitment to a cleaner and healthier environment, and is a positive and progressive step in consolidating our management of coal at RGTCT.

Future Trade

It is envisaged that several products such as calcite and woodchip will be transferred from our Auckland Point Terminal to Barney Point.

Hours of Operation

The coal operations closure will not affect BPT’s hours of operation and will continue to operate 24 hours, 7 days per week.
