GPC prepares to launch third round of trainees
10 JUNE 2019
Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) is inviting the region’s Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander community to attend an Information Session next week to find out more about the Cross Industry Operation (CIO) Traineeship program.
People, Community and Sustainability General Manager Rowen Winsor said the CIO traineeship was an 18-month program designed to support the region’s future Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander leaders in their journey from education and training to employment and long-term career pathways.
“We are incredibly proud of the CIO Traineeship program, with 2019 marking our third intake of trainees,” Ms Winsor said.
“We invite Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and South Sea Islander people to attend the Information Session to find out more about the program and ask any questions they may have to assist with the application process.
“The CIO Traineeship highlights GPC’s ongoing commitment to genuine reconciliation and equal opportunities.”
GPC Indigenous Affairs Advisor Lee-ann Dudley said the traineeship provides a wealth of experience for those involved.
“The program exposes the trainees to a range of roles and skills across GPC, while giving them an opportunity to tap into the knowledge of employees with more than 40 years’ experience,” Ms Dudley said.
“It’s been a pleasure to watch our first two intakes of trainees grow both professionally and personally throughout the program.
“As part of the program, trainees rotate through the business, gaining experience in Administration, Warehouse Operations, Building Services, Parks and Recreation and Marine Pilots.”
The trainees also participate in cultural classes, National Reconciliation Week and programs in association with Nhulundu Health Service and Rockhampton’s Dreamtime Cultural Centre.
Applications for the program will open on Friday 21 June and close 8am on Friday 5 July 2019, with five traineeships available. Ms Dudley strongly encouraged anyone interested in applying to attend the Information Session.
The Information Session will be held on Tuesday 11 June from 5pm to 7.30pm at the CQ University Gladstone Marina Campus, in the Rex Metcalfe Room.
