GPC supporting todays talent for tomorrow

28 February 2017

Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) is pleased to announce that applications are now open for GPCs Talent Today, Talent Tomorrow scholarship program for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander students who are commencing or continuing tertiary study in 2017.

The scholarship program aims to help facilitate increased opportunities for local Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander community members by recognising and rewarding study efforts, and encouraging higher education.

Since 2014 GPC’s Talent Today Talent Tomorrow scholarship has supported four students to achieve their goals, including the successful completion of a Bachelor of Midwifery.  Two further students are studying Bachelor of Social Work, and our newest scholarship recipient studying a Bachelor of Law / Arts.

Successful applicants receive a payment of $3,500 upon successful completion of each semester for a total of $7,000 annually, for up to three years.

This payment alleviates some of the financial pressures associated with tertiary studies, including textbooks, transport, technology and stationery.

GPC, Community Relations Officer - Indigenous Affairs, Lee-ann Dudley said that the program was about empowering Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander people and supporting their commitment to further education.

“We hope that this program will encourage people to develop their skills to not only make a positive change in their lives and their families but also in the community in which they live.

“We currently have three scholarship recipients studying through the Talent Today program, and we are looking forward to supporting many more.”

The program forms part of GPC’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), which was established in association with the local Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Australian South Sea Islander community.

Applications close Friday 10 March 2017.
