Local artist given top job in GPC’s Paint the Port competition
24 March 2017
Local artist and art educator, Geoff Head, has accepted the offer to be Gladstone Ports Corporation’s (GPC) 2017 Paint the Port art competition guest judge.
While many may know Geoff due to his long history as an art teacher at Gladstone State High, others may recognise his Over the Hill lino cuts located on the footpath in front of historic architecture along Goondoon Street.
Geoff brings to the competition, experience, knowledge of the community and passion.
“I have been in the Gladstone community for over 36 years, teaching and following my own art practice. To have this experience acknowledged and be asked to judge this significant community art competition was an honour,” Geoff said.
“I look forward to seeing the artists interpretation of the port in their submissions.”
Geoff will join GPC’s People and Community General Manager, Rowen Winsor, who judged last year’s event.
GPC’s Paint the Port competition provides amateur and professional artists from Gladstone, Rockhampton or Bundaberg with an opportunity to present their unique portrayal of port activities or infrastructure for a chance to win cash prizes in four categories – Open, High School and two Primary School sections.
Artwork will be displayed at the Paint the Port Exhibition at CQUniversity Gladstone’s Marina campus from Wednesday 12 to Friday 21 April, with the winners announced on Thursday 13 April on GPC’s Facebook page as well as at the 2017 Gladstone Harbour Festival Family Fun Night.
Online registrations are open now and will close at 4:00 pm on Friday 31 March, with all artwork to be submitted in person before 3:00 pm on Friday 7 April at CQ University’s Leo Zussino Building in Gladstone.
