Port of Bundaberg welcomes funding for road upgrade
3 September 2018
Heavy vehicle capacity and access to the Port of Bundaberg is about to be improved, after Federal Government funding was granted to fast-track the upgrade and realignment of Buss Street.
Bundaberg Regional Council made the submission to the Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program (HVSPP), with the support of Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC), which will match the Federal Government’s contribution.
Port of Bundaberg Manager Jason Pascoe welcomed the announcement and the benefits it poses for future port development.
“GPC has been working with Council for some time to address the condition of port access roads and the limited capacity to handle increases in heavy vehicle traffic,” Mr Pascoe said.
“The works at Buss Street will address these limitations, while increasing safety and improving general traffic flow for the public accessing the Bundaberg Port Marina and Burnett Heads Boat Harbour via Powers Street.”
The Buss Street works will be complemented by $1.9 million worth of road and drainage upgrades to Newman Street, which GPC expects to commence shortly.
“These projects will have a catalytic effect on port efficiency and will assist in driving further increases in port trade, as well as facilitating greater tourism and leisure activities in the area,” Mr Pascoe said.
