Skillaroo Returns Home with Medallion for Excellence

19 September 2019

Gladstone Ports Corporations (GPC) Electrical Apprentice, Anthony Cobb has returned home with a Medallion for Excellence following his efforts on the world stage.

Coming 12th in his category of Electrical Instrumentation, Anthony competed alongside 1,600 other competitors over four days.

Anthony, who was selected as a member of the Australian Skillaroo team in April, said intensive training camps and a great support network assisted in his preparations for Russia.

“I have been training for over 12 months in preparation for the competition, as well as travelling to training camps all over Australia,” Anthony said.

“It was an amazing experience to be part of the Skillaroo squad and 45th WorldSkills International Competition.

“Although it was a challenging competition, I really feel that I have been able to develop my skills and knowledge as an electrician.”

Returning home has not signalled the end of Anthony’s affiliation with WorldSkills, having received an invitation to join the judging panel at the next round of regional competitions starting in the coming weeks.

GPC Acting CEO Craig Walker said that GPC is tremendously proud of Anthony Achievements.

“The entire GPC family have been following Anthony’s WorldSkills experience and are so proud of all he has achieved, his hard work and dedication, is a testament to the young tradesman that he is,” Mr Walker said.

“He has been on an amazing journey over the last 12 months, being in numerous competitions and training camps, all while continuing to complete his apprenticeship with us.

“The WorldSkills program is a wonderful opportunity for our apprentices and I hope his journey inspires others to strive for similar successes in their trades.”

GPC would like to congratulate Anthony on his WorldSkills achievements, his Skillaroo selection and for earning a Medallion of Excellence. In addition, Anthony has been supported by our own GPC trades team and we are privileged to have such a willing and dedicated group.
