Gladstone Ports Corporation Reaches Settlement in Class Action Proceedings
September 12, 2025
On Thursday, 11 September 2025, a deed of settlement was executed between Gladstone Ports Corporation Limited (GPC) and the plaintiffs in a class action.
The class action related to claims that dredging activities in 2011–2012, caused environmental impacts in Gladstone Harbour, allegedly resulting in commercial losses for some fishers. GPC has consistently denied the allegations and has made no admission of liability.
Under the terms of the settlement, the plaintiffs—through their litigation funder, Litigation Capital Management (LCM)—have agreed to make payment to GPC towards its legal costs to resolve the matter.
The settlement remains subject to approval by the Supreme Court, with a hearing scheduled to commence on 27 October 2025.
GPC welcomes this resolution and remains committed to operating our ports to the highest environmental and operational standards for the benefit of our local communities and industry as we continue to deliver for Queensland.
