The Port of Rockhampton (PoR), formerly Port Alma Shipping Terminal, is central to GPC’s strategic advantage and plays an important national role in handling hazardous goods. The port can manage large volumes of ammonium nitrate (Class 5.1 under the IMDG Code) and explosives (Class 1), with capacity among the highest in Australia. This provides a suitable corridor for importing and exporting these cargoes. The Queensland Government Magazine is located at Bajool, just 26 kilometres from the port. Ammonium nitrate is typically distributed across Queensland for mining use, while explosives have been transported by road as far as Victoria and Western Australia.

Its strategic location and specialised handling capability support mining, construction and industrial supply chains. Together, GPC’s port precincts provide flexible pathways for hazardous and industrial cargoes across Central Queensland, connecting customers with the infrastructure, land and logistics needed to move products safely and efficiently.
