Environmental Partnerships

GPC continually seeks to improve our environmental performance and where possible enhance the natural environment through innovative projects, partnerships and research. These are some of the key collaborations whereby GPC represents at a Committee level.

Gladstone Healthy Harbour Partnership

The Gladstone Healthy Harbour Partnership (GHHP) is a partnership of community organisations, industry, research organisations, statutory bodies and government. The partnership was formed in 2013 to independently report on the health of Gladstone Harbour, and identify opportunities based on rigorous science and strong stakeholder engagement to improve where necessary the health to the harbour for the future. This is achieved by the production of an annual whole-of-system Gladstone Harbour Report Card.

GPC is a founding partner of GHHP and represents industry on the GHHP Management Committee to provide support in achieving the vision of a healthy, accessible, working harbour.

Port Curtis Integrated Monitoring Program

GPC is a sponsoring member and Management Committee and Technical sub-committee member of the Port Curtis Integrated Monitoring Program Inc. (PCIMP), which is the first collaborative monitoring program to be undertaken for the whole of Port Curtis. The Gladstone-based program conducts ambient mid to far field monitoring of water bodies for the whole of Port Curtis, which extends from the northern end of The Narrows to Rodds Bay and includes the harbour and its tributaries.

Gladstone Local Marine Advisory Committee

GPC is part of the Gladstone Local Marine Advisory Committee (LMAC). To help protect the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park, Local Marine Advisory Committees enable local communities to have effective input into managing the Marine Park and provide a community forum for interest groups, government and the community to discuss issues around marine resources. Gladstone LMAC covers the coastal and inland area extending from Curtis Island in the north and Rocky Point in the south. This includes the city of Gladstone and the coastal towns of Boyne Island, Tannum Sands, Agnes Water and Town of 1770.

Gladstone Industry Leaders Group

GPC is a member of the Gladstone Industry Leadership Group (GILG). GILG is a membership organisation which represents Gladstone major industry. GILG’s vision is to have an ongoing working collaboration between industry, community and Government toward a position sustainable future for major industry in Gladstone. Environment is a GILG priority, and GILG members are committed to environmental leadership and aim to be an industry benchmark of environmental best practice.
